The famous architect Y.I. Menyakin’s son met the students of Architecture and Civil Engineering Institute of VSTU

Ivan Menyakin met the second-year architect students from Architecture and Civil Engineering Institute of VSTU on the 22nd of June. Ivan Menyakin is the famous architect Yuri Menyakin’s son. His father participated in Stalingrad Battle. After the Victory in The Great Patriotic War Yuri Menyakin graduated from Moscow Architecture Institute and came to reconstruct Stalingrad in 1953, answering the call of his heart.

Yuri Menyakin spent almost 10 years reconstructing the destroyed city, participating in the following projects:

  • building of the V.I. Lenin Avenue, 1956;

  • Mass Grave monument (Lenin Square), 1958;

  • Central Park of Culture and Rest near the Mamayev Hill, 1958-1960;

  • the part of the city behind the canal, 1960;

  • project of the circus building, 1960;

  • detailed planning of the districts of the city.

Yuri Menyakin was the main architect of Volgograd (1963-1986) and the Head of the Architecture and Civil Engineering Administration of Saratov City Executive Committee.

Ivan Menyakin told about his father’s significant creative projects in Stalingrad-Volgograd, the history of the construction of the Monument to the Saratov victims of The Great Patriotic War “Cranes” etc.
