The volunteers of VSTU cleaned up the monument “Rodimtsev’s Wall”

17.04.2018

By tradition, the volunteers of VSTU spend the first warm days of spring on the bank of Volga River near the Panorama Museum “Stalingrad Battle”. The clean-up of the monument “Rodimtsev’s Wall” took place on the 13th of April. The young people took away shattered glass and old leaves, arranged the bank covered with the underbrush of poplars.

This place has a great history. In 1942 Alexander Ilich Rodimtsev commanded the 13th Guards Rifle Division. This historical moment had the important role in the victory in Stalingrad Battle.

Every year these days are farther from us but the desire to keep the memory about them is stronger. The memory doesn’t consist in the loud slogans: it is a touch to the letters written on the monument and gratitude for the fallen heroes’ exploit. So it’s important to clean up the mass grave and lay flowers to the old monument.

Many mass graves need cleaning in our city. The voluntary group of VSTU invites those who want to keep the memory about the heroes to participate in the clean-up days. The next clean-up will take place on the 18th of April on the memorial complex “Lyudnikov’s Island”.
