Brand-manager of the rating agency Times Higher Education (London, The UK) visits VSTU

To begin with VSTU – a flagship technical university has already been included in one of the most prestigious top lists of the world universities - Times Higher Education for several years. We are the only one university in the region, which occupies a respectable place among several dozen of Russian universities in this ranking. That is why it's no coincidence at all that brand-manager of Times Higher Education Lachin Italmazova delivered a lecture in front of polytechnics within the framework of the project workshop, which is holding these days at VSTU – a flagship university.

But before this rector of the university Alexander Valentinovich Navrotsky met with Lachin in the executive office, where an interesting discussion with exchange of ideas took place. Alexander Valentinovich noticed that focus areas of further development of the university for the next 5 years are working out exactly during the project session. In her turn Lachin invited polytechnics to a master class, dedicated to the development of the brands which will take place in Moscow on April 25. Vice-rector for international relations Sergey Yurievich Kalashnikov and head of the department of international relations Grigory Vladimirovich Boyko also participated in the meeting.

On the workshop speaking in front of a numerous audience, brand-manager told about marketing strategy, prestige of the university, factors which have influence on the prestige, current mobility of students and here she emphasized that nowadays students from Asian countries in increasing frequency think about education in Russia that’s why Russian universities should pay attention to this tendency. They talked about the importance of brand for the university. In this regard, they noted positive changes which are carrying out at VSTU and expressed their wish to continue these changes in the future.

After all, the fact that our university is represented in Times Higher Education has a great influence on its recognition all over the world! “Want to be printed in New York Times?” Then be on pages of Times Higher Education magazine – and New York Times will write about you!” – pointed out Lachin Italmazova. She also pointed out that it is necessary to talk about all university strength areas – scientific researches and achievements, participation in international conferences, majors of training – in short about everything what can be interesting for foreign students. Besides, we shouldn’t forget about the main sights of our city as it is very important if we want foreign students to choose our university, what in its turn is one of the main components of the university prestige.

Of course there were questions and one of them sounded like this: “What should we do in order to improve and promote the awareness of the university and how can we do it? Lachin answered that the number of scientific publications in worldwide journals and citedness of these publications have a great impact on this as well as the way the university presents itself. Organization of joint summits with Times Higher Education also facilitates promotion of the university.
